UAB (-9.5) vs Rice

3-1 UAB hosts 0-5 Rice in UAB’s conference home opener. UAB has a gunslinger at QB in Tyler Johnston III and averages 26 points per game. They haven’t played the toughest schedule, but their defense has proven to be the strength of the team. UAB’s defense is allowing just under 16 points per game and allowing only 266 total yards of offense per game. Rice is currently splitting QB duties and has struggled on the offensive side of the ball, averaging just 15 points per game. Meanwhile, the defense has struggled to make big stops, giving up an average of 30 points per game. It’s a conference game, but the numbers and the eye test don’t lie here. I’ll lay the -9.5 with UAB.

Liberty (-4) vs New Mexico St.

Liberty travels to New Mexico St for an 8pm Eastern showdown. Point blank-New Mexico St. has one of the worst defenses in all of the NCAA. They are ranked 128th in total team defense, allowing teams an average of over 47 points per game and over 520 yards of offense per game! YIKES! And although Liberty is only in their 2nd year in the FBS, they have played better than expected. Liberty averages just under 26 points per game and 420 yards of offense per game. I expect Liberty to shred the secondary of New Mexico St and pound the ball in the second half with their running game. I’ll lay the -4 with Liberty.
