NFL Week 17: Playoff Implications and where to find value bets

Week 17 leaves us with a few playoff implications. These are important to look at, as we can decide what teams are playing for a reason or for the memes and make more informed betting decisions. Let's take a look at the what matters!

NFC East

While all the NFC teams entering the playoffs have already been decided, we have some pretty massive implication. Lets start with the NFC East, where the Eagles and Cowboys are fighting for the conference title.

  1. Dallas wins NFC East - Dallas needs to beat the Redskins and the Giants need to beat the Eagles

  2. Eagles win NFC East - Dallas loss or Eagles Win

NFC First and second seed

Bye weeks are at risk.

49ers

Currently have and retain the number 1 seed if they simply win. If the 49ers lose to the Seahawks, they fall to the top wildcard spot.

Packers

With a Packers win, they secure a bye no matter what. If they lose, they need the Saints to lose to keep said bye.

Saints

The Saints need a little more to get a bye week:

  1. Saints win, Packers lose

  2. Saints win, 49ers lose

  3. 49ers lose, Packers win

Seahawks

With a Seahawks win vs. the 49ers, they'll need some help to secure a bye.

  1. 1st seed: Saints and Packers to lose for the number 1 seed

  2. 2nd seed: Saints to win and Packers to lose

  3. 3rd seed: Saints and Packers win

  4. 3rd seed: Saints lose and Packers win

AFC Wildcard

The AFC is a bit more dicey. With only 1 wildcard spot up for grabs, we're left with the following teams that are in the hunt in our final week of NFL:

  • Titans

  • Steelers

  • Raiders

The final wildcard can also result in 5 scenarios:

  1. Titans - Titans win

  2. Titans - Steelers lose, Titans lose, Colts lose

  3. Steelers - Steelers win, Titans lose

  4. Steelers - Steelers lose, Titans lose, Raiders lose, Colts win

  5. Raiders - Steelers lose, Titans lose, Raiders win, Colts win

AFC Second Seed

The second seed is up in the air between the Patriots or Chiefs

  1. Pats and Ravens: Pats win, Chiefs win or lose

  2. Ravens and Chiefs: Pats lose, Chiefs win
